Oil services firm to offer employment boost to Caithness

Wood Group PSN is bringing an engineering jobs boost to Caithness. The oil services company, headquartered in Aberdeen, is keen to recruit highly skilled engineers prepared to commute to the Aberdeen office from the Caithness region.

After a string of North Sea contract wins, Wood Group PSN is on a recruitment drive to fill 150 vacancies for jobs that span several technical disciplines including project management, project control and design engineering.

Robin Watson, UK managing director for Wood Group PSN said:

“We recognise that there is a strong skills base in Caithness and we are keen to tap in to it in order to support our operations growth in the UK. We were recently awarded a major North Sea contract by Talisman Energy (UK) Limited, a subsidiary of Talisman Energy Inc, to provide operations and maintenance services to its UK assets and have several other large contracts that require UK wide engineering support. The Caithness region has a talent pool of skills that are transferrable to the oil and gas industry and we can offer those willing to work with us a competitive and flexible package.”

Richard Munro, Wood Group PSN Global Head of Discipline for Electrical and Instrumentation, currently commutes from Caithess to Aberdeen.  He said:

“I’ve commuted from Caithness to the Wood Group PSN Aberdeen office for almost five years now and would definitely recommend this to others in the region.  The commute is very manageable on a weekly basis as the transport links are excellent. It’s great being able to work in Aberdeen during the week without any disruption and impact to my family life at the weekend.” 

Wood Group PSN is looking to recruit across all of its engineering and design disciplines for both onshore and offshore positions and will be hosting a recruitment roadshow from 8.00am to 6.00pm on Friday 10 February at the Pentland Hotel, Thurso.
