My whole philosophy is to minimise offshore hours. This makes project execution safer, more controlled and much more economical. Having high quality constructability input into projects from the outset, results in safer, fit for purpose, cost effective projects that are delivered in good time.

Mike has been in the oil and gas construction industry for over 35 years. He is currently leading our work in Egypt and has held senior positions on various large scale projects, including one of the largest hook-ups in the North Sea.

Hook-up and commissioning

We understand how important first oil or first gas dates are to our customers, so we always aim to better these dates safely. Wood Group PSN has over 30 years of experience of successful hook up and commissioning (HUC) projects around the world. Our success is built on working with the best people and using our integrated Work Planning System and Completions Management System.

Defining the work
At this vital stage we clearly determine the operating systems and limits, and system handover sequences. We identify inspection test records along with other documentation to be included in the Completions Management System and prepare commissioning procedures.  This way we create the best possible start for our people and our customers.

Pre-planning
Using the base hook-up workscope and a work breakdown structure, we develop a strategic execution plan, from which we prepare construction workpacks. Our workpacks and jobcards contain all we need to complete work that passes thorough testing and inspections.

Hook-up
The most effective construction method to complete the hook-up of a facility  is by area. However, for the commissioning team to commence their work, they need a system or part of a system completed. Getting the best balance between these competing demands is where our experience and planning come into their own. The safety of personnel and avoidance of danger to the environment is paramount.

Commissioning
The key to a successful hook-up is speedy transition from construction into commissioning, allowing the earliest possible testing and proving of the functionality of the systems. Once final certification for the mechanical completion and commissioning of each stage of hook-up is completed and verified, the work is then as-built and closed out.

Management systems
Our Work Planning System and Completions Management System ensure that the correct people and materials are onsite at the correct time. They hold all the information required to successfully manage a project through mechanical completion, pre-commissioning, commissioning, readiness for start-up and handover to operations.
